Sukoon Homestead Chowkhamba

Sukoon is part of a quiet homestead in Satoli village, in the Kumaon Himalayas. The village is at a height of feet. With a mild temperate climate, pleasant and fresh in summers and bracing cold and bright in winters, it is an ideal retreat for those who yearn quiet tranquility and revel in sounds of the forest.

The cottage is comfortable and is surrounded by farmland and 10 acres of oak forest. The house is built in traditional style with stone and mud mortar and has been modified to bring more light and ventilation to the rooms. With unmatched views of the central Himalayan peaks, it catches the early morning rays of the rising sun and gets warmth from the south and the setting sun in winter. The romance of a Dutch rocket stove provides additional charm and warmth in winter.

For whom This home is for those who would like to spend a few weeks to a month or more in solitude and desire privacy. We welcome, thinkers, philosophers, painters, writers, musicians or anyone else who needs a break from hectic urban existence. It is also for those who desire to undergo a period of detoxification of body, mind and soul.

Facilities Services The building has piped spring water, a water filter, a bathroom and two western toilets, with running water and provision for hot water with an electric geyser as well as wood fired heating. Laundry and cleaning services are added benefits. Our kitchen has a cooking stove and gas, utensils. We could assist with fresh supplies of vegetables, milk and stocking of essential cooking ingredients. Meals lunch could be provided on request. Guidance in yogasanas, pranayama and some yogic kriyas could be provided when a guide is available.

Activities The location is ideal for just relaxation or for pursuit of quiet study including yoga. It can also be a perfect get away for a family, discovering and experiencing together a different way of living. You could observe daily farm activities of looking after chickens and cows and the management of agricultural crops and forest. You could also participate in seasonal activities of making fruit preserves, go hiking to Mukteshwar, Kapileshwar or plan a trek to the higher mountains from Munsiari, Vedini Bugyal or the glaciers of Pindari, Khati or Sunderdhunga.
